For the first time in the 2024/25 academic year, the Department of Romance Studies awarded a prize for the most convincing Master's thesis in one of the subject areas (didactics, linguistics, literature and cultural studies). This was by no means just about 'fame and honour', but also about a substantial prize of 500 euros. The competition between the submitted studies was correspondingly tough. A jury consisting of experienced lecturers was impressed by the scientific innovation and excellent quality of the student theses. The decision was therefore not easy, but ultimately unanimous in favour of VIOLA MARIA SCHLÖGL's Master's thesis in didactics, supervised by Professor Hinger: 'The teaching of emblematic competence in Austrian Spanish lessons (approach to the educational policy requirements and the experiences of practising Spanish teachers) ' is the title of the highly exciting study, which deals with the role of gestures in foreign language teaching and presents a very systematic, empirically sound research design. Enormously impressive - this was the general opinion of the audience when Ms Schlögl was presented with her certificate at the Institute's welcome evening at the beginning of October. The Institute of Romance Studies would like to congratulate her and invites you to submit outstanding Master's theses for the second edition (2025/26) of the ROMANIA Prize - information will follow.
