Language contact and multilingualism

 

As part of the teaching focus “Romania on the move - mobility and migration in Romance-speaking cultures”, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Döhla (University of Tübingen) will give two guest lectures on Spanish in America and Asia, to which all interested parties are cordially invited.

 

As part of the teaching focus "Romania on the move - mobility and migration in Romance-speaking cultures", Prof. Dr Hans-Jörg Döhla (University of Tübingen) will give two guest lectures on Spanish in America and Asia, to which all interested parties are cordially invited:

(1) Spanish-Guaraní language contact in Paraguay

Tuesday, 8 April 2025, 13:30 - 15:00 in SR 33.4.032 (Department of Romance Studies)

Hans-Jörg Döhla will speak in the course "PS Aspectos lingüísticos: Mehrsprachigkeit und Sprachkontakt in Iberoamerika" (with Katharina Gerhalter) about language contact phenomena and bilingualism in today's Paraguay (Spanish - Guaraní). The course unit is open to all interested students. Language: Spanish/German.

(2) Early Manila Hokkien-Spanish "Bocabulario de la lengua sangleya por las letras del A.B.C." (ca. 1617)

Wednesday, 9 April 2025, 17:00 - 18:30 in SR 33.3.211 (Department of Linguistics)

As part of the linguistic colloquium, Hans-Jörg Döhla will present linguistic aspects from the project"Early Manila Hokkien (EMHo): language, missionary linguistics and migration as reflected in the Bocabulario de lengua sangleya por las letraz de el A.B.C.". The aim of this project is to digitise, edit and analyse a Spanish-Chinese dictionary that was compiled in Manila in the early 17th century. The cooperation project between the Universities of Tübingen, Berlin and Graz (Centre for Digital Humanities / ZIM) is funded by the DFG and the FWF. Lecture language: English.
